Borough Theatre, Abergavenny
The Borough Theatre Summer Season is now on sale – brochures are available from the Box Office or check online for details of the brand new programme of quality entertainment from May to August 2018.
Abergavenny’s local operatic company AAODS open the new season with a week long run of the musical Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels (Tuesday 8 – Saturday 12 May).
On Monday 14 May the theatre is delighted to announce an evening with The Rutles – also known as the Prefab Four, the band are known for their visual and aural pastiches and parodies of the Beatles. Showaddywaddy’s gig on Friday 18 May is already SOLD OUT. Other music events include The Story of the Beach Boys – A Tribute on 7 June and a fundraising concert by The Brothers of Blues on 28 June. All proceeds will be donated to A4B (Acting 4 the Borough).
Folk lovers will be thrilled to hear that Wales’s international award winning band Calan will be exploding into life on the Borough Theatre stage on Saturday 26 May with their infectious rhythms and high energy routines.
There are two great comedians lined up this season, the popular BBC Radio and TV presenter Jeremy Hardy on 23 May and the sharply dressed, well-spoken, disparagingly camp son of working class Bromley, Tom Allen.
Wales’s popular ballet company, Ballet Cymru return on 1st June with circus company Citrus Arts combining classical ballet with circus skills in their sparkling production of Cinderella and Wales’s theatre company Relive present two performances of Belonging, a powerful and uplifting play which follows the lives of two families as they discover that love and laughter doesn’t have to stop because of dementia (Weds 6 June 2pm & 7pm).
As always, there’s a wealth of talent from local performers: Abergavenny Borough Band present a musical extravaganza (19 May); Abergavenny Theatre Group perform Frank Vickery’s Family Planning (14 – 16 June); Concept Players are staging their version of Blood Brothers (Play Version) on Thursday 21 – Saturday 23 June; there are showcases of talent from Dance Blast (30 June) and Mayzmusik Performing Arts Academy (7 July) and King Henry VIII School end the season with their annual concert (Tuesday 10 – Thursday 12 July).
Illyria return with two pieces of open air theatre at Abergavenny Castle Grounds, The Merchant of Venice on Saturday 4 and Pirates of Penzance on Sunday 5 August.
