Tickets are now on sale for the Spring 2018 Season at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny. Details are available online at boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk of the brand new programme of entertainment from January to April 2018.
Witness the thrills and spills of American style wrestling on the Borough’s stage as Superstars of Welsh Wrestling kick start the New Year and new season. Other popular events include Pop Up Bowie the multi award winning tribute act, and TWO popular radio and television personalities: Owen Money returns with another talent packed music event and Nicholas Parsons presents an anecdotal performance based on his life and experiences.
The season includes a diverse mix of music; classical concerts include a piano recital with Maria Marchant and a programme of Haydn, Schubert and Chausson by The Fidelio Trio. Folk acts include an evening with the award winning Breabach and legends of Irish music and song, The Fureys make a welcome return. Swansea City Opera return with The Barber of Seville, staged in English this razor-sharp opera is full of twists and turns.
There’s a wealth of theatre this season. Chicken Shed have created an optimistic and powerful drama alongside South Gwynedd Domestic Abuse Services aptly named In the Absence of Silence. The highly acclaimed Welsh actor Gareth J Bale returns to theatre twice this spring; he reprieves his role of Grav, a one man show about the late Welsh rugby legend Ray Gravell and he has produced and will star in a Welsh language production of Miss Julie. The Torch Theatre commemorates the end of World War 1 with The Wood and they have also teamed up with Dirty Protest and Chapter Arts Centre to create Lightspeed from Pembroke Dock.
Events for children and families include an action packed adventure with Captain Flinn 2: The Magic Cutlass and The Flying Bedroom is a delightful bilingual tale told through dance and theatre.
As always, local community groups present a wealth of productions.
Abergavenny Theatre Group present Laughter in the Dark. The Abergavenny Pantomime Company present Jack & The Beanstalk during February half-term. There will be a St David’s Day Concert with Blaenavon Male Voice Choir and local performers and the Concept Players stage the swashbuckling farce Pirates of Penzance. Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company present Ignite, an exciting project which has empowered the young dancers to commission their own professional choreographers. Hummadruz present The Summer of Love, Abergavenny’s Keith Davies returns with his popular tribute to Elvis (all proceeds to the Mayor’s Charity: Abergavenny CAB) and Theatre Ad Hoc perform their version of Blackadder Goes Forth.
