The Isla String Quartet formed in 2023 and are comprised of students from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) and the Royal College of Music (RCM), where they receive mentorship from the Marmen Quartet, through the RCM String Quartet Platform Scheme. They were recently selected as 2025 Tillett Debut Artists and are looking forward to performances around the UK in the next couple of seasons. Last year, they won the inaugural RAM Nina Drucker Haydn String Quartet Prize, as well as the Harold Craxton Prize, together with pianist Sherri Lun. They were invited to perform at the Calne Music and Arts Festival 2024, performing Mozart’s B-flat major String Quintet with Brett Dean, along with his own arrangement of Mozart’s Church Sonata in D. As Britten Pears Young Artists for 2023-24, they gave a lunchtime recital at Aldeburgh Jubilee Hall at the end of their Chamber Music Residency. In September, they gave four recitals across the Southwestern region of France as part of the Ferrandou Musique concert residency. The Isla String Quartet have previously received coaching from John Myerscough, cellist of the renowned Doric String Quartet, through the RAM Frost Trust Advanced Specialist Strings Ensemble Training Scheme, and have also enjoyed learning from chamber music specialists including Alasdair Beatson, Lawrence Power, Hélène Clement, Ying Xue, and Marc Danel, at the Schiermonnikoog Festival in March this year.
