As you may be aware, the theatre is about to undergo a long awaited refurbishment. However, the complexities of the pandemic and being situated in a listed Victorian building have caused delays forcing the theatre to remain closed for the rest of this year.

The refurbished theatre will meet contemporary standards that will see new seats, better access, improved technical facilities and a new cooling and heating systems that will bring fresh air into the auditorium.

All of the team working on the refurbishment are aware of the impact of moving the theatre’s programme and activity but it is our overriding priority to get the work done properly and to ensure we are fully safe and accessible to all when we are able to reopen our doors.

This means a more realistic expectation at this time, is to open back up in the early part of 2022.  We are expecting the entertainment industry to be back in the swing of things by then.

In the meantime we’ll be planning some events and activities outside of the theatre, working in partnerships with creative, talented and inventive people who make our beloved theatre so much more than a building.
