NEW DATE – THURSDAY 7 FEBRUARY 7:30pm
It was 1955 when The Temperance Seven began their quest to promote all things British and nostalgic – cricket, steam trains, real ale and jazz music of the 1920s. With connections to the likes of Spike Milligan and Terry Jones, in 1960 they recorded with Peter Sellers on vocals and came to the attention of a young producer. Intrigued by the prospect of getting their eccentric sound recorded, a certain Sir George Martin cleverly placed them around one microphone in an attempt to simulate a recording from the 1920s. The result was You, You’re Driving me Crazy Sir George’s his first number one hit. Their brilliant musicianship and preposterous quirk endures today.
