Deborah Glenister is a multi-instrumentalist (saxophone, piano, clarinet and flute). She graduated in Jazz Studies from Leeds College of Music and has played in classical settings but found jazz combos and soul bands more fun. After completing her degree, she played with the Constellation Big Band, the Steve Price Big Band, Amy Sinha, Kitty Bs Little Big Band, The Saxalettes, as a guest with Bluesy Susie and with Ruth Bowen. She also performed extensively with Jazz Heritage Wales in their trio, quartet, quintet and their Before Freedom show, and was musical director and arranger for their Women in Jazz Allstars swing band. Most recently she has enjoyed performing with Rod Paton, Chris Hodgkins and James Chadwick in Brecon, Deborah Hancock in Ponthir and in a trio led by up-and-coming jazz drummer Dewi Davies, The Jazzy Ting Trio. She enjoys the freedom and flexibility of jazz to be able to perform with lots of different people and is excited to see where her jazz journey takes her. Influences include Scott Hamilton, Bill Evans, Count Basie and Sonny Rollins. When she isn’t performing jazz, Deborah teaches one-to-one instrumental music lessons at home and online and performs more commercial music with Rock and Soul band.
