Fast Food Revolutionaries – Pizza Pilgrims Thom and James Eliot and Beefy Boys Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy and Christian Williams talk to Tim Hayward

20 Medi 2025

Pizza Pilgrims and Beefy Boys are bucking all the trends. As hospitality struggles to recover post-covid, post-recession, post-Brexit, post-everything else, these two former food-truck traders are opening new restaurants like it's going out of fashion. The Beefy Boys have doubled their space in Hereford and are creating an elegant restaurant group in the Heart of England with openings in Cheltenham, Shrewsbury, Bath and Oxford, while the Pizza Pilgrims had 25 Pizzerias at the last count, including one in Cardiff. What’s their secret? Tim Hayward – author,  broadcaster and owner of the Fitzbillies cafes in Cambridge – gives them a good grilling.

Both will be signing copies of their new books Pizza Napoli: Pizza Pilgrims Recipes and Stories from the Birthplace of Pizza The Beefy Boys: From Backyard BBQ to World-Class Burgers.

This event is part of the Abergavenny Food Festival programme.
